CHEM BC 3282y Biological Chemistry
Introduction to biochemical building blocks, macromolecules, and metabolism.
Structures of amino acids, lipids, carbohydrates, nucleic acids. Protein
structure and folding. Enzyme mechanisms, kinetics, allostery. Membranes and
biosignaling. Catabolism and anabolism with emphasis on chemical
intermediates, metabolic energy, catalysis by specific enzymes, regulation. -
Prerequisites: One year of organic chemistry, one year of biology. Lecture: MWF 9:00-9:50. Problem section: W 12:00-12:50.
